As Mazzaro’s wine, beer, and cheese manager, Jeffrey DiMaio knows good taste. He’s a certified sommelier with the American Sommelier Association; Certified Specialist of Wine with the Society of Wine Educators; and holds an Advanced Certificate with Distinction from the Wine and Spirits Education Trust.
A Philadelphia native, Jeffrey became interested in wine and cuisine during a two-year Naval tour in Italy. His work as sommelier and manager for acclaimed Philadelphia wine programs at the Dilworthtown Inn, Rat’s, Specchio at the Borgata, and Paradisoh garnered awards from Wine Spectator Magazine.
At Specchio, Jeffrey was invited to double as the sommelier and fromager and began to further study cheese with help from Emilio Mignucci of DiBruno Brothers in South Philly’s Italian Market. As the general manager of Paradiso Restaurant and Wine Bar, Jeffrey won critics’ praise for its stellar service and beverage and cheese programs. Paradiso went on to win Best Italian Restaurant in Philadelphia Magazine’s Best of Philly Awards.
In 2005, Jeffrey moved to Florida to join Epicurean Life of Sarasota. There, he headed the Fred’s Restaurant award-winning wine program before serving as Wine Director for JD Ford Wines at Morton’s Gourmet Markets. And this year his article The Great Organic Sulfite Panic was published in the May 2009 duPont Registry Tampa Bay Magazine.
